    Interested in the future of your profession? Become an ACOEM Key Contact!

    Public opinion, now more than ever, often dictates the voting decisions of legislators and other policy makers. Strong public support can often ensure passage of a bill while silence can often guarantee legislative defeat or worse-passage of legislation that includes detrimental provisions.

    In order to survive and flourish in today's constantly changing health environment, physicians must take an active role in the legislative and regulatory processes. As we have seen in the past, organizations with strong government relations and grassroots programs have been successful in garnering support for initiatives that benefit their members.

    ACOEM's Key Contact Program is designed to facilitate your role as a partner in our grassroots efforts to raise our collective voice to national and local leaders. Our goal is to help you -with minimal effort-develop personal contacts with your members of Congress and their staff to ensure that occupational and environmental physicians are represented in important policy decisions. It's simple and it won't take much time.

    As a Key Contact, you will receive:

    • All "Action Alerts" on legislative or regulatory issues;
    • Information on how to contact your policy makers
    • Talking points and/or sample letters
    • Updates on the most important issues in occupational and environmental health

    As a Key Contact, you will be asked to:

    • Quickly respond to any ACOEM Action Alert (about four to six per year) by calling, writing or emailing your Senators and Representatives
    • Develop personal contacts with your Members of Congress and their staff
    • Visit your Member's home office if requested
    • Provide Feedback to the Washington Office
    • Keep informed of ACOEM policy efforts
