Program Description
ACOEM and the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research (NCSDR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)/National Institutes of Health (NIH) are collaborating to increase the ability of health care providers to assess and manage the sleep disorders that often accompany shift work, including shift work sleep disorder. This scientific roundtable, “Shift Work and Sleep: Optimizing Health, Safety, and Performance,” will bring together a panel of nationally renowned experts in sleep and occupational health to discuss the latest information regarding the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders related to shift work. The curriculum developed during the scientific roundtable will be the basis for several enduring CME-certified educational activities available to the broad base of health care providers who see workers at risk of, or experiencing, shift work-associated sleep disorders. These activities include several web-based learning courses (posted on Medscape) and a supplement to the College’s Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (JOEM).
