AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Part I

Master the new Sixth Edition of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment through insightful presentations and your active involvement in assessing example cases. The US Department of Labor (Office of Workers’ Compensation Program) and several state workers’ compensation jurisdictions now require use of the Sixth Edition. As a result of participating in Part I, you will be able to discuss the paradigm shift that has occurred with the Sixth Edition, explain why the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, was chosen as the contemporary model of disablement, demonstrate the use of diagnosis-based grids, and perform musculoskeletal impairment ratings.

CAOHC’s Professional Supervisor Workshop
The Professional Supervisor workshop is an intermediate-level course with a specific emphasis on the real world application of audiology expertise as encountered in occupational settings. Lectures will include a review of the current literature and recommended practice guidelines. In addition instructors will present employee case studies for participant problem solving, critical thinking and small group discussion. Case presentations will illuminate responsibilities of Professional Supervisors, guidelines for managing "problem audiograms", and determination of work relatedness.

Part II builds upon knowledge obtained from Part I or other experience – it focuses on the performance of case exercises. As a result of participating in day two you will demonstrate the ability to perform complex musculoskeletal, neurological, pain and other commonly encountered impairment evaluations.

OSHA Injury and Illness Recordkeeping Process

In 1970, Congress passed the occupational Safety and Health Act. The Act requires that some employers report workplace injuries and illnesses that meet certain requirements. This Course will give a detailed review of the recordkeeping rules and requirements, underlying concepts, case analysis process, recording criteria and mechanics, and auditing process. In addition, OSHA’s recent Recordkeeping National Emphasis Program will be covered. Time will be allotted for Q&A and discussion.

Using ACOEM’s two recent reports on these topics as a starting point, the course includes a brief review of data and research on the positive impact that a clinician’s intervention can have. Next, the 6 logical steps in SAW/RTW decision-making will be clarified, along with tools and resources to support you at each step. After identifying an opportunity for improvement in your own work environment, you will explore the practical steps involved in making that change with other attendees. You will leave with an action plan and a notebook with an annotated bibliography, a set of clinical tools including standardized questionnaires, forms, protocols and other resource materials.
