Professional Liability Insurance for OEM Practitioners Now Available to ACOEM Members!
The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) is pleased to announce a comprehensive professional liability insurance program offered by SHR Insurance Services and underwritten by Lloyds of London. This program is specifically designed for OEM physicians and is available only to members of ACOEM. *
Many consultant services and administrative duties provided by occupational and environmental medicine practitioners have not been covered by malpractice insurance.
This Professional Liability Insurance Program responds to this need. ACOEM members now have the opportunity to obtain access to professional liability coverage to protect them from exposures from suits alleging negligence for errors and omissions in services provided to clients and from recommendations and decisions that may result in bodily injury to a third party (such as a patient).
Previously, consultants seeking liability coverage had to decide between a medical malpractice policy that provided coverage only for direct patient relationships, or a miscellaneous professional liability insurance policy that generally excluded all bodily injury claims. In response, SHR Insurance Services has developed a Professional Liability Program that offers the broadest coverage for a wide range of health care consulting activities that includes coverage for bodily injury claims.
Coverage is provided for both direct and non-direct patient contact.
Direct Patient Contact - Provides coverage on professional services performed by the insured in the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and/or care of any client, resident or patient.
Non-Direct Patient Contact - In addition, provides coverage for administrative, consulting and various alleged misconduct incidents for patients, employees, former employees and applicants for employment.
| Includes coverage for: |
- Administrative duties
- Policy Development
- Records Review
- Sexual Misconduct
- Discrimination
- Defamation

With this policy the member can continue to work through their local agent. The coverage is underwritten by Lloyds of London.
ACOEM members can get more details, information on whom to contact to discuss their needs, and the application form by logging into the ACOEM web site in the upper right corner.
We invite Non Member physicians to join the College so you can participate in our networking and professional development activities and take advantage of this and many other member benefits. For membership information please click here: http://www.acoem.org/memberbenefits.aspx
* ACOEM is pleased to facilitate access to the SHR program as a benefit of membership. Any agreed upon purchase of insurance or contractual arrangement is strictly between the member and SHR, and ACOEM cannot accept any responsibility. ACOEM receives no remuneration for SHR’s underwriting activities.
