  • Foundations of Occupational Medicine

Thursday, April 30, Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, 2015

This course is a requirement for the OEM Essentials Curriculum.**

ACOEM’s Foundations of Occupational Medicine course provides an excellent and comprehensive introduction to the clinical, technical and professional concepts of the field for the non-specialist or new entrant.

Beginning in 2015, the program will be presented in a “hybrid” format with online learning leading up to a core face-to-face course offered in conjunction with AOHC. Previously, Foundations of Occupational Medicine has been delivered in two Segments, each of which offers two days of face-to-face training. Segment 1 has been delivered in November in various locations, and Segment 2 has been delivered in conjunction with the American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC) as a pre-conference course. For the course preceding AOHC 2015, we are offering a transitional program with the ongoing core two-day face-to-face curriculum (“Segment 2”), plus an extra day of content from what was known as Segment 1, while we build our online activity resources for the remaining portions.

Health surveillance, Respirator Clearance, Risk assessment & communication, Radiation & Health, Exposure Measurement. Hazard Recognition, Dermatology, Mental Health & Work & PTSD, Medical Emergency, Response Planning, Critical Appraisal of Literature, Causation vs. Association, Fatigue Risk Management, Alcohol and Other Drugs, OHS Team Professionals

Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2 (Segment 2) Topics:
Biological Monitoring, Medical Review Officer, Chronic Pain, Asbestos, Emerging OEM Health Hazards. Infectious Diseases, Pandemic Planning, Occupational Lung Disease, Asthma, Work-related Legislation, Dust Diseases, Introduction to Toxicology, Toxins & CVS/Blood, Neurotoxicity
